About Us
The maiden is a collection
of resources to support the planning and management of public services
in Gloucestershire. MAIDeN complements the national Neighbourhood Statistics, but
is more up to date, more locally focused and more flexible.
The MAIDeN database currently records the key
characteristics of each electoral ward in Gloucestershire using nearly two
hundred local indicators. By combining data and information relating to our
wards we provide wide-ranging Ward and Community profiles. Data is collected
on:
- population
-
social services
-
health
-
Indices of Deprivation
- benefit
claims
- work and income
-
access to services
-
education and learning
-
road safety
-
young offender
- community safety
Rates and rankings enable
each ward to be considered in the context of the County as a whole and
within its Local Authority district. We also hold some national ward indicators
for wider context.
We aim to support the modernisation
of local public services. Regional, National and European funding is available
to Gloucestershire's communities, but much of it needs to be bid for competitively.
Bids that are most likely to succeed are based on evidence and partnership.
MAIDeN can be used to supply supporting evidence for bids, to identify
local partners, and as a basis for project and service planning.
We can produce Community
Profiles for the real communities of Gloucestershire, not just for electoral
wards. The real communities are found in villages or estates rarely, if
ever, conforming to administrative boundaries. Our real communities cross
ward boundaries, or are found within parts of wards.
We have an electronic mapping
system (GIS), which enables us to define real community boundaries and
produce profiles that relate directly to specific, particular communities.
The use of MAIDeN data is
restricted to people working in and for the public service in Gloucestershire.
We welcome requests for help from voluntary sector and community groups.
