Locality Profiling Toolkits for Strategic Planning in
Gloucestershire
This event was to mark the end of the
first phase of development of MAIDeN locality profiling toolkits. It was an an opportunity to hear about the latest national developments in the
use of data to support regeneration, and to learn about the
approach taken by Gloucestershire.
MAIDeN is Gloucestershire's Local
Information System, recording the characteristics of the county's
communities using over 200 different variables. The toolkit project aims
use this single source of data to build Thematic Locality Profiling
Toolkits for each of Gloucestershire's 13 Strategic Partnerships.
The kits will be a
basic information resource for partnership policy development - a common
information source on which all agencies can base policy and planning
decisions. We aim to make this possible through the use of coloured coded
matrices and maps. These highlight the localities with the highest service
needs and allows their wider characteristics to be explored. This method
allows data to be easily understood and also preserves the confidentiality
of the data allowing it to be widely distributed between partners
(more about toolkits).

Partnership Toolkit
This work was supported by an award of £100,000 from the ODPM/ Treasury Invest to Save Budget
(ISB6), Risk and Innovation Fund. The
National Audit Office compared the ISB to a venture capital company.
It is essentially a form of venture capital intended to allow new and
innovative service delivery methods to be tested to determine whether or not
they should be implemented more widely across government.
